The mission of the EHMIS Social Studies Department is to cultivate the abilities of young people to make informed and reasoned decisions for the public good as citizens of a culturally diverse and democratic society in an interdependent world.
Why Should We Study World Geography??
I want my students to realize that world geography is not just memorizing dates, places, people and things: the world is REAL and there are so many things about it that are FUN to learn! My students are expected to be engaged in reading, writing, and discussing a great deal. These three activities serve to develop a personal understanding of the world and its complexities as well as critical thinking skills. Through debates, discussions, analyzing primary source documents and creating arguments based on evidence, my students will become skilled in establishing a solid foundation for becoming knowledgable, global young citizens. I highly encourage my students to become more knowledgeable about the world around them, allowing them to become active participants in our democracy and our global society.
